The origins of the firm dates back to 1978, the year it was founded by Mr. Laval Mathieu. Since its beginning, Vias Ltd. has been working with a clientele spanning a wide range of industries including consumer products, lumber and oil products, public utilities, municipalities, professional associations, and more. Vias Ltd. currently provides actuarial services and consulting to companies of various sizes, ranging from individual plans to larger plans covering several hundreds of participants.
Vias Ltd. offers Quebec employers and retirement committees practical and personalized solutions for the various aspects of the management and administration of defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans, individual pension plans (IPP) as well as retirement compensation arrangements (RCA). Vias Ltd. also offers services for managing group insurance plans, evaluation of life insurance policies, partition of benefits, as well as expert testimony.

The Vias Ltd. team consists of a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries as well as collaborators with academic training in actuarial and computer science.
Laval Mathieu founded Vias Ltd. in 1978 after being an actuary in various life insurance companies including Transamerica, Manulife, Industrial Alliance and Standard Life. He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Michigan and is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries. He also founded Gestion Vias Inc. and Transferts Medirect Inc. Throughout his career, he has been a consultant for employee benefits of large employers with several thousand employees. He is recognized in the industry for his innovative ideas and great integrity.
